“Berber rugs are true works of art”

Chantal Soetens (1971) studied Economics at the UVA and had worked at Ambiance Home Decoration in Laren since 1994. At Brugman, an agency for fabric houses that include Lelievre, Pierre Frey and Jim Thompson, Chantal came into contact with everything related to interior in the Netherlands. In 2004, she made a career switch and decided to fully dedicate her time to interior design. Today, Chantal provides Ambiance Home Decoration with her own unique insights in this very field.

She travelled to Marrakech where she met Ismail Mouahid, a designer of Berber rugs. Together with her sister Nathalie, the three of them took a leap of faith by taking these designs to the next level. After extensive research, an exceptional collection was designed for the Dutch market, in particular for retail and special projects.

Nathalie Soetens (1970) has been working as an independent designer for various clients since 1996. Her speciality: from simple house-styles and logos to visual concepts that are complex and challenge the norm. This, of course, includes strategy development. Her portfolio involves establishing corporate identities, creative concepts and full advertising campaigns for numerous companies. Her signature mark can be found on brochures, websites, ads, posters, magazines, mailings, etc. She is furthermore also a business representative for a photographer and a visual artist.

Each Berber rug comes to life in Ismail Mouahid’s design studio.

The rugs are woven by hand and made of 100% pure virgin wool. They are true pieces of art and each design has its own story. Ancient Berber rugs and the unmistakable beauty of Moroccan nature form the inspiration behind Mouahid’s designs. Spacious proportions and organic patterns contribute to the uniqueness of each item. A high and soft pile, and a subtle gloss effect provide an exquisite appearance.
